Fight heartburn with a refreshing glass of ginger, honey and lemon juice

Ginger’s pungent aroma may be off-putting to some, but this potent superfood can help relieve various aches and pains.

If you’re suffering from heartburn or stomach pain, try making ginger, honey and lemon juice for a refreshing remedy that will help boost your pH levels and reduce acidity!

Understanding heartburn

Heartburn refers to an uncomfortable, burning feeling in your chest that can move up your neck and throat, hence the name. It is occasionally a symptom of conditions such as acid reflux, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or pregnancy.

If you have heartburn, you may experience a bitter or sour taste in the back of your throat. The condition may last from several minutes to a couple of hours. Heartburn may feel worse after you eat or if you lie down too quickly after eating.

When you have heartburn, you may also feel other symptoms such as:

  • Difficulty swallowing.
  • Pain in your chest when you bend over or lay down.
  • A hot, acidic, sour, or salty taste in the back of your throat.

How can ginger help with nausea, heartburn and stomach pain?

According to a study, consuming as little as 1.1 grams of ginger can help reduce nausea symptoms in over 1,200 pregnant women. Even if you don’t have nausea, ginger is still a good addition to your diet because it has incredible anti-inflammatory properties.

Ginger contains gingerol, a bioactive compound with potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. Gingerol is behind a lot of ginger’s health benefits.

Consuming ginger can also benefit gym-goers suffering from muscle pain! In a separate study, researchers found that consuming two grams of ginger for 11 days was linked to significant improvement in muscle pain due to strenuous exercise.

Ginger is an amazing superfood that can make the recovery process much easier because it acts as a natural pain reliever. Ginger also contains phenolic compounds that can help relieve gastrointestinal irritation and lessen gastric contractions, meaning ginger can reduce the likelihood of acid flowing from your stomach back into the esophagus.

Another study found that ginger may help reduce inflammation. Results revealed that volunteers given ginger supplements had reduced inflammation markers within a month.

Researchers believe that ginger’s anti-inflammatory properties may prove beneficial when it comes to acid reflux since inflammation in the esophagus is a major characteristic of heartburn.

Honey and heartburn

One study suggests that honey can help relieve heartburn because it can reduce inflammation in the esophagus. Honey’s texture also helps coat the mucous membrane of the esophagus, which may provide longer-lasting relief for someone with heartburn.

Meanwhile, a clinical review showed that honey’s viscosity can help keep acids down. A participant reported that consuming five milliliters (one teaspoon) of plain honey helped relieve his heartburn symptoms.

Refreshing ginger, honey and lemon juice

According to Birgitta Lauren, fitness expert and President of Expecting Fitness, you may be acidic and inflamed if you suffer from heartburn. Try making the refreshing drink below to naturally reduce acidity, boost your PH levels, reduce inflammation and soothe stomach pain.

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 3-4 cups of water
  • 1 cup of boiled water
  • 1 large organic lemon
  • 2 tablespoons of organic raw wild honey
  • Several slices of fresh organic ginger and turmeric

Preparation:

  1. Rinse the lemon. After drying, scrape off the lemon rind and place in a 1-quart glass bottle.
  2. Cut the lemon in half, squeeze the fruit, then add the juice to the bottle. Add the ginger and turmeric.
  3. Boil the cup of water and add the honey. Mix well, then add the honey-water to the bottle.
  4. Fill the rest of the bottle with cold water.
  5. Refrigerate for a few hours to let the ingredients steep before serving.

Make a batch of refreshing ginger, honey and lemon juice to relieve heartburn and stomach pain and to balance your pH levels.
