Boost your gut health with this soothing, Ayurvedic “CCF” tea

Herbal teas are a fantastic and healthy way to keep yourself hydrated while cleansing the body of harmful toxins. One particular function of a lot of herbal teas is supporting the gut, which is essential for improving your overall health. “CCF” is one such herbal blend that can work wonders on your gut.

The letters CCF stand for cumin, coriander and fennel; the three main ingredients of this Ayurvedic herbal blend. This tea was designed to balance out your digestive comfort and aid digestive capacity, giving your gut an overall boost in functionality.

Each of the ingredients has been tried and tested for the plethora of health benefits they provide. Scientific research backs up the claims, stating that these spices can not only improve gut health but also fight off inflammation and assist in weight loss. The blend is also tri-doshic, meaning the concoction works for any of the three Ayurvedic “doshas” or constitutions.

However, to enjoy all the benefits of CCF tea, you must know how to prepare it the right way. Rather than referring to it as a tea, which refers to brewing tea leaves, the density and robustness of the ingredients require you to do a decoction instead. This refers to a concentrated liquid resulting from heating up or boiling a certain substance, particularly for medicinal preparations.

Ingredients

  • ½ teaspoon (tsp) cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp whole coriander seeds
  • ½ tsp whole fennel seeds
  • 4 to 5 cups purified water

Preparation

  1. Combine all the seeds with the purified water.
  2. Cover the mixture with a lid and boil for about 5 minutes.
  3. Strain the decoction into a thermos.
  4. Sip periodically throughout the day, ideally while it’s warm.

The taste is a combination of the earthy flavor of cumin and the citrusy taste of coriander that all come together in a blend of fall and Middle Eastern spices. You can even throw in a stick of cinnamon in your decoction for a bit of spiciness and warmth. If you ever want to give your gut a quick boost throughout your day, you can whip yourself up a batch of CCF tea.
